We are living a new reality, and we must all adapt. COVID-19 is a new virus, and because it is RNA-based, it *seems* to mutate rather easily. You can be infected and show no symptoms, mild symptoms, or be in the hospital for days or weeks. Scientists are working on better testing and vaccines, and we are doing our best to reduce transmission risks.
I also have a professional responsibility to make the office as safe as possible for my immune-compromised clients.
To that end, when I do re-open these are a few of the changes I’ve made:
• Clients will wait in their cars until I text to come in.
• Masks will be mandatory to enter the office. If you don’t have one, I will provide one for you. If you have a diagnosed disorder or health issue which makes this difficult, contact me directly to discuss prior to your next appointment.
• A quick questionnaire to determine your transmission risk, and contact-free temperature check.
• Disinfecting spray to your shoes/handbag.
• Bathroom stop for hand washing.
• Increased time between clients from 30 minutes to 45 to allow for deep cleaning between each client.
• Changing out the client chair to allow thorough sanitation.
•Table cover over the padding and warmer to allow complete sanitization between clients.
• Air purifier which is guaranteed to both filter the viral particles, and all the air in my office every 30 minutes.
• CDC-approved disinfectant which is proven to kill the virus within 1-4 minutes, depending on the surface.
• All linens/blankets will be changed after each session. It used to be that the top layer (when more than a sheet is used) could be re-used for multiple clients. Going forward, they will be treated as a potential bio-hazard and washed after every use. (Sheets have ALWAYS been changed between clients.)
• I will be wearing a mask during every session.
• A towel will be put down on the floor between the client chair and table to act as a barrier between you and the floor in case there are viral particles on either you or the floor.
• Sanitizing spray for your feet after shoe/sock removal.
• And a few others.
Additionally, I am encouraging everyone to keep a card on file through Square or to use PayPal/Venmo for payments if you are concerned about touching the iPad I now have for clients to use. It will be wiped with alcohol in between sessions, but I understand some will prefer contact-free payments. The iPad will also allow clients to fill out documents I require in-office, including the primary intake. Now more than ever documents will be required prior to treatment.
Some may think this is excessive bordering on ridiculous. I’ve read posts from MTs in other areas who got the virus from an asymptomatic client, and then unknowingly transmitted it to other clients. One MT in particular had a blood clot in their carotid, and was in the hospital on blood thinners for a month. I’m taking mitigation very seriously.
Once I start scheduling again, if you have attended an event/group gathering with more than 10 people in the last week, or live with someone who has, wait three (3) weeks before coming in. If you are having any COVID-type symptoms or been exposed, please reschedule. If you have questions, please feel free to call or text 919-999-0723. Remember that just because the state is starting to re-open, it doesn't mean we are safe; it simply means they think the hospitals can handle increased patient load.
